hile designing this spacious apartment it was important for us to keep in mind that design trends have changed in these past couple of years as we spend more and more time indoors and long for the feeling of comfort that timeless, warm elements bring to our spaces.

The concept while planning this spacious apartment was to provide a modern contemporary home for a 4-member family that echoed the vibrancy of its owners and to provide a feeling of serenity and calmness while making it sure it was both chique and maintenance-friendly. We wanted to use a neutral palette to create a calm, timeless canvas that will not go out of date and neither be a boring and flat space. To give life to this idea, we used textures and patterns in a way that creates visual interest.

Our project was in a luxurious upscale complex called PS Aurus, just off the EM Bypass in Kolkata. This 1800 sqft apartment was on the 12th floor of the 35 storey-ed towers, behind the ITC Royal Bengal.

Our foyer area is like the cover to a book. It’s the first point of one’s experience when coming into a home. The vintage console emanates a warm welcoming feeling, but at the same time is as functional as possible. The mirror panels hint a broadened space which greets guests into a capacious Living and Dining area.

The 22’ double-height ceiling adds so much drama to the living room. We wanted to define it as the focal point that attracts the beholder. The varied layers of polished teak wood dominate the living area while adding contrast and intrigue to the overall space.

Modern chandeliers crown the double-height ceiling and the warm wood wall keeps the space cozy and inviting. The blue tone of the bar unit and the rug has been used as a statement color that immediately catches the eye.

The abundance of light flowing in through the double height windows creates an inviting, bright and positive atmosphere. The mirror panels opposite to the balcony embrace the entire living and dining area allowing the reflective glass to work its magic on the space!

After nightfall, the evening cityscape twinkles through the generous expanse of windows, wrapping the living room like a large wall mural.

Designing The double height space was definitely the most exciting area for us. However, it had its limitations too. Installing the woodwork, painting the ceiling, and fixing the long chandeliers and curtains was extremely challenging, as we had to constantly build and remove the scaffolding as and when required.

But all worth it!

The guest bedroom, gives the vibe of a soothing sanctuary that has been achieved with the hues of green on the wall and wallpaper. In the Master bedroom, the pendant lights accentuate the elegant appearance of the bed back wall while the rest of the room has a very minimalistic design. Proceeding to the Daughter’s bedroom, combination between the metallic texture paint tone, the circular mirror and the pendant light accentuates the newness of the theme.

The Sons bedroom boasts of a monochromatic colour theme, with different tones of grey throughout the space. The rustic texture wall is cut through with wooden volumes. The room uses a boldly patterned rug and textural effects in the bedding to add interest and vibrancy to the space. The black slated wardrobes create a style statement.
