This home’s interiors are a seamless blend of the traditional and the contemporary. A 7,900 sq ft home in Hyderabad for a family of four was recently conceptualised by interior designer Mounika Kodali. The clients, a couple with two children, reached out to Kodali to design the interiors of their bungalow along with redoing the entire east façade of the villa. The result is a plush three-storeyed bungalow in a luxurious gated community—Ektha Prime Villas in the Financial District of Hyderabad.

The villa’s interiors exhibit a combination of contemporary and traditional design aesthetics with high-end lighting installations, hand-painted murals and sumptuous yet functional furnishings from leading European brands. The material palette features natural materials such as marble, wood and stone.

Guests are welcomed into the villa by a 5’ single door that opens into a lobby space, which houses a small nook for a shoe rack. The ground floor features a formal living room, a puja room, a dining and kitchen area, a guest room, and an informal living room. The lobby leads into a 20’ double-height drawing room with a grand installation of patina finished brass lotus pond with an eclectic carved stone cladding and a custom-designed chandelier. The drawing room opens into the kitchen and dining space in an open layout. The dining area houses a solid wood dining table with awe-inspiring chandeliers and a vibrant wallpaper-clad ceiling.

The second floor has the bar and home theatre room, the games room, a guest room, and the terrace. The entire second floor was treated differently as its more of the hosting floor for the clients. The extensive bar area showcases hand-painted walls that depict a beautiful natural landscape and a playful cement flooring pattern. This tasteful room also houses two custom-designed light installations and an informal bar setup that opens into an expansive terrace offering panoramic views of a verdant garden and the city’s skyline. The guest bedroom has a grey muted theme with cement texture walls and furniture that brings out warmth and comfort. The multipurpose room is more open and free , clad with bison board panels with an interesting play of lines.

Moreover, the project also included the design of the east façade of the villa. A balcony was added along with wooden rafters that act like a protective screen enclosing the children’s study room. The wooden rafters complement the grey cladding stone of the façade, which is further elevated with planters.

Each room in this Hyderabad villa exhibits a distinctive character that is tied together by a cohesive material and colour palette. The bungalow's colour scheme is muted, with pops of colour brought in through artworks, furnishings and lighting fixtures. Eclectic stone claddings, arresting wallpapers, and textured walls elevate the interiors.
