the development of the character and theme for interior. The design process of the house, starting from scratch is a reverberation of this profound setting. Sitting in the lush tropical landscape, ‘Istana’ is a warm sight in earthy tones from the exterior, conceived as an oeuvre of mindful detailing and colour algorithm in the interiors.

The front verandah with louvred ceiling and recessed ambient lighting imparts a tropical warmness, with granite walls and fine tone veneer. The rising wing-like reference on the wooden finish door suggests a subtle introduction to the theme itself. The ample lit vibrant art on walls unifies the living and dining spaces, segregated by furniture along the centre.

As one enters into the living space, the large open jaali along the linear double height courtyards let the eyes wander into the landscaped outdoor pavilion, well set along the edge of the cliff. The thematic configuration of artworks along the wall complements the furniture as one proceeds towards the dining area. The living/ dining spaces are a continuum of the outdoors with borrowed views of the landscape and the burble of the water fountain soothing the eyes and the ears.

Each space has its own narrative and is provided with artworks of different themes that can reflect the space transparently thus creating a focal point even without emphasizing and contrasting, but by blending it with the existing colour palette solely with the shades of red and blue. The kitchen was devoured by the great ambience provided by different shades of grey.

Pavilion of Istana by Ta-Da Design Collective Llp

A sloped site with a cliff and a magnificent view at its neighbouring region has to be utilised. However, this is done by introducing a pavilion at one end of the site respecting the view of the cliff and the sky. The pavilion is a timber and steel structure with a sloping roof. Patterns along the Headboard are designed in such a way that it blends with the theme, and brings unique character to each bedroom.
