The residence, a vaastu-compliant haven, boasts three bedrooms and three halls with high ceilings, thatched roof eaves, and verandas on its northern and southern fronts. These design elements not only foster a sense of cultural belonging but also respond to the climatic nuances throughout the year. Long and broad wooden windows, crafted in-situ by local carpenters, flood the interiors with light, creating a dreamy oasis in the midst of the arid landscape. Hand-woven curtains made of jute add a touch of rustic elegance, harmonizing with the earthy surroundings.
As one traverses through the residence, dynamic flooring patterns unveil an individualistic temperament within the interiors. Rajasthan's abundant natural stones set the stage for this visual symphony, with each room showcasing distinctive flooring materials such as Indian marble, granite, and terracotta tiles. The kitchen floor is adorned with rugged Kadapa flooring complemented by vibrant Jaisalmer inlay, while the corridors feature locally sourced green Udaipur and Jaisalmer stones.
The meticulous selection of materials extends beyond the interiors to the swimming pool deck, embellished with local Nimbara stone. Interestingly, some of the furniture is ingeniously designed with built-in brick and lime plaster, aligning not only with economic consciousness but also seamlessly integrating with the overall architecture. Additionally, refurbished furniture sourced from Havelis in Jodhpur introduces a functional blend of the royal and the vernacular.

Amidst the numerous challenges encountered during the project, finding local artisans well-versed in the long-lost construction and finishing techniques proved to be the most arduous. The Araish finish, a marble-mimicking smooth finish achieved using lime, required the expertise of a local mason, a search that took over three months to bear fruit. The thatched eaves, while seemingly simple, demanded precision and specific knowledge, underscoring the dedication to authenticity and sustainability.
Beyond its architectural finesse, this farmhouse, spread across one acre in Chittorgarh, signifies a conscious effort to reduce the carbon footprint. The design incorporates passive techniques, utilizes 90% locally sourced materials and labor, and embraces natural materials to minimize environmental impact. The rammed earth walls not only reduce the carbon footprint but also provide thermal insulation, ensuring the interiors remain cool in the city's intense heat.

It not only complements the city's history and culture but also serves as a luxurious embodiment of sustainability. This farmhouse is not just a dwelling; it's a narrative of tradition, craftsmanship, and a conscious choice to weave nature into the very fabric of architecture. In Rajasthan, where industry thrives, this sustainable oasis is a testament to the power of design to shape a greener, culturally rich future, one building at a time.
