Jannah is a single storey residence for Mr. Shamnath and family that stands out with its unique linearity in design and form sprouted in a lush green environment, located at Kokkallur, Calicut. Jannah embodies an artistic circulation of volumes in green patches. The relationship between art and architecture is a dynamic symbiosis, an intricate dance where form, function and aesthetics converge to create an immersive and meaningful built environment.

The design revolves around creating personalized spaces for families by differentiating the public and private spaces with an apt amount of connectivity. Exterior is a study in balance and proportion where each element is considered to contribute to the overall coherence of design. The use of geometric volume in its green environment adds a sense of rhythm and visual harmony turning the entire dwelling into a symphony of form and function.

The small linear and west facing site made it more challenging to the design team to shelter against the harsh heat gain. The main core volumes are buffered by placing covered car porch and sitout surrounded by green tropical plants to minimize the heat gain.

The screen in front of the sitout provides ample privacy while the circular cutout acts as an interactive counter. Horizontal and vertical terracotta screens are provided to vent out the hot air. While entering the dwelling a common central foyer space separates the space as private and semi private zones, all the three bed spaces are arranged towards the right side, while living and kitchen towards left hand side separated by alfresco dining.

The dining is opened to a caged landscape yard which was intended for raising birds by the client. Kitchen is occupied by a modern modular as well as conventional smokeless Aluva adupu. Bay seating along with a breakfast counter is provided as well. An opening to the alfresco dining which brings a connection within the spaces.

The linear corridor leads us to beautiful terracotta jali designs at both ends as  focal points. Dramatic play of artificial and natural light can be experienced throughout the corridor giving a visual treat.

Towards the right we have the Master bedroom, kids room, and a guest bedroom. The parents bedroom and kids room are connected by a Koi pond that gives life to both the spaces. The water ripples from the fountain adds a soothing environment inside the house.
