Located amidst the lush surroundings of Kottarakkara, Kerala, an 8-cent plot adorned with mature trees sets the stage for a 3000 sqft residence. This idyllic setting serves as a canvas for a minimalist dwelling, standing as a testament to contemporary design sensibilities that encapsulate serenity, functionality, and familial warmth.

The plot was once graced by a single-story abode crafted by their farmer father 45 years ago. Motivated by a desire to honour their roots and create a sanctuary for family gatherings during visits to Kerala, the three brothers envisioned a home that seamlessly blends with nature while meeting the needs of their growing family.

The design ethos of this house revolves around connectivity and openness. A spacious open-plan layout forms the heart of the home, fostering seamless interaction. The entrance leads through a shaded sit-out into a foyer, revealing a double-height space that adds a touch of surprise and connects to the floor above. A modern courtyard with a tall palm tree provides privacy for the kitchen while serving as a focal point for the home's natural light. The dining room serves as the nucleus of familial connection. This space intertwines with its surroundings, forging a connection between the indoor and outdoor areas. On one side, the courtyard extends, infusing the space with natural light and greenery. On the adjacent side, a sit-out beckons, connecting with the lush tropical garden outside.

Embracing a minimalist aesthetic, the interiors feature pristine whites complemented by teak wood elements and natural stone finish. Large windows dissolve boundaries, allowing the tropical surroundings to become an integral part of the home.

The facade of this dwelling embodies a minimalist contemporary ethos. Embracing the principles of contemporary design, the exterior boasts clean, straight lines that create a striking silhouette against the skyline with a neutral palette. To mitigate the intense western sun, a louver screen emerges as both a functional and aesthetic element. This architectural feature not only shields the interiors from harsh sunlight but also provides privacy to the master bedroom balcony during the day. Moreover, its sleek design seamlessly integrates with the contemporary theme.

On the right side of the residence, an architectural solution is tailored to mitigate the effects of the southern sun. Here, an ACP cover spans over both bedrooms, offering an additional layer of protection. What sets this design apart is the deliberate gap between the cover and the main structure, fostering continuous airflow and reducing heat accumulation, thereby marrying aesthetics with environmental consciousness.

In essence, this residence stands as a testament to thoughtful design, where form meets function, and every detail is meticulously crafted to enhance both visual appeal and liveability.
