“Malhar Residence” Located in the core of the city, surrounded with residential zone, situated on a rectangular plot having approx. 3600 sq. ft. of area facing south direction. The studio’s aim was to meet the client’s requirement of an individual bungalow along with the co-living tenant’s area for rental purpose. The home’s design is planned to offer an optimal living experience while respecting its surroundings. The layout prioritizes flow, comfort, and efficient use of space. 

On macro level, the residence is divided into public and private areas, each with distinct zoning. The Bungalow zone at front, and the tenant’s zone effectively placed at the back, both separated by the line of circulation with different entry stairways. On smaller scale, the design features an open plan, connecting the kitchen, dining, and living areas. The soft curve of arches above helps delineate different zones without interrupting the sightlines, fostering a sense of unity. The living and dining areas flow into each other seamlessly, creating an inviting space for social gatherings.

In contrast, the private spaces—such as the bedrooms—are isolated for peace and tranquility. Windows and an open court at upper level, are designed to optimize airflow, ensuring that natural breezes circulate throughout the home, reducing the need for mechanical cooling. Maximizing sunlight enhances both the emotional and functional experience of the home. Each space is strategically designed to capture the changing qualities of natural light throughout the day, enriching the ambiance and connecting the residents to the outdoors. These classical elements like an arch and a vault, representing strength, grace, and timeless beauty. They are not only aesthetic but functional, creating expansive spaces while maintaining a sense of openness and connection, at the same time, adding a different character to the façade.

Tactically, materials like Wood and stone are used liberally to ground the residence in nature, creating a warm, calming environment. These materials are locally sourced and ethically chosen, allowing the building to sit lightly on the earth. Earthy tones like soft whites, beiges, and natural brown tones are complemented by the rich textures of wood and stone, ensuring a calm, harmonious atmosphere that encourages relaxation and comfort. The arches are expertly executed, often paired with vaulted ceilings that soar high above common areas. This combination of curves and expansive space enhances the feeling of grandeur and openness. 

Arches and vaults transition to outdoor spaces like covered verandas and sun-dappled terraces. These spaces are designed for year-round enjoyment, with sun-shaded nooks for hot days and fireplaces for colder evenings. This residence, through its thoughtful combination of design elements, serves not only as a functional living space but also as a retreat, grounded in nature and modern luxury. It encourages relaxation, inspires creativity, and fosters a sense of timeless comfort.
