The design responds with a clear, function-driven form, structured into three square modules that rationalize the site’s proportions and align with Vastu requirements. This modular planning establishes a rhythmic spatial order, reinforcing the idea of pravah—a seamless and continuous flow through the home. Public and private zones are distinctly defined yet visually connected, ensuring openness without fragmentation. Triple-height, open-to-sky spaces at the entrance, central courtyard, and puja room act as spatial anchors, drawing natural light deep into the interiors while creating vertical connections across levels. Openings along the shorter edges enhance cross-ventilation, allowing the house to breathe despite its constrained context. Circulation is intuitive and fluid, guided by a lightweight prefabricated staircase that enhances both movement and spatial permeability.

A key spatial feature is the use of openable wooden louvers in place of conventional windows, positioned adjacent to bedroom doors. These elements enable visual connectivity between spaces while maintaining privacy, and significantly improve airflow within the interior. Material selection further strengthens the dialogue between tradition and modernity. Locally sourced teak wood is extensively used in railings, furniture, and a custom-designed swing, carrying forward the memory and warmth of the client’s previous home. A neutral color palette complements the richness of the wood, while handcrafted artwork in the puja room and along circulation spaces reinforces the narrative of continuity and flow. Passive design strategies, including internal courtyards, vertical voids, and optimized openings, minimize reliance on artificial lighting and ventilation, contributing to an energy-efficient and environmentally responsive home.

“Pravah” ultimately extends beyond its physical form to create a deeply personal and contextual living environment. It successfully balances contemporary aspirations with traditional values, offering a home that feels both modern and familiar. By fostering comfort, continuity, and a strong sense of belonging, the project not only enhances everyday living but also establishes a lasting legacy—one that remains rooted in memory while evolving with time and setting a thoughtful precedent within its urban context.
