Architecture is not merely what is seen by the eye. It is also home to our memories, imaginations and dreams, and is more about what is felt than what is seen. A deliberate involvement in tackling the other senses ensure a design that can bring in contentment and an ethereal emotional connection. The clients wished to see these spaces fitted with furniture and colors that helps them reminisce the memories of their former residence. Using a traditional palette with a modern adaptation, we tailored the interiors to produce an enhanced sensorial experience.

We tried to create spaces in the home that are socially welcoming and emotionally connecting, two very important virtues we need to hold on to, even when we move into an urban lifestyle. All the spaces, irrespective of exterior or interior are connected by large openings and double height spaces. The interior thus needed to be one that would blur the lines between inside and out yet create pockets of cozy niches that are truly functional and utilitarian.

Making a house a home involves surrounding yourself with objects that you love that have a meaning to you. There has been a conscious effort in bringing about a subtle balance between the traditional and the contemporary by using natural and raw textures and refined polished surfaces on the contrary.

The architectural material palette is confined to teak wood tones, kota green greys, whites and greens of the landscape. Natural textures like jute, woven cottons, aged wood, linens, wool, terracotta were used in the interiors to complement the earthiness of the architecture and to make the transition between outside and inside seamless. Earthy reds and sages were added in the upholstery and art which are colours derived from the terracotta used in the architecture and the landscape. Small hints of brass and black were used in the hardware and décor to bring forth the contemporary nature of the client’s modern lifestyle. Further a layer of patterns using block prints curtains, ikats, kalamkaris were used to add dimension, colour and play to the space.
