Located in one of the dense localities of Gurugram, is Satyasheel residence that is accommodated on a tight rectangular plot of 2430 sq ft. The client being the architect himself, had a requirement for a house to accommodate four members. They wanted to keep the house simple, spacious and wished to play along the lines of linearity which is the firm’s core designing principle.

The map of Indian cities is getting crowded day by day with the increasing developments. With continuous constructions of tall residential buildings and commercial centers, is in a way impacting the typology environment of private urban housing. The congestion in the cities barely gives the advantage of good quality light and ventilation to the urban houses. This brings a challenge to carve out a calm peaceful lifestyle amid the chaos of the cityscape.

Divided across three storeys, the residence separates the semi-public and private spaces across the floors. The ground floor is an open floor concept and becomes a semi-public space with a formal drawing room, family lounge, open kitchen and dining. The space is where the family can be together and also entertain guests.This leaves the private facilities like bedrooms with walk-ins to be settled across the upper floors.


The houses in the vicinity are closely placed and have views of the tall residential buildings. To allow the dispersal of natural light in the interiors, open to sky niches have been created which form a light well. This allows for the house to get natural light in abundance and facilitates ventilation. The skylight added at the northeast corner of the terrace supplies ample daylight to the entire house. The design of the house is responsive and mindful to the summers experienced by Delhi. The ventilation, thermal insulation and the slim line floor to ceiling windows ensure that the house stays cool. The interior is designed with the modernist approach which keeps the spaces simple, uncluttered and contemporary
