Shraddha is a bespoke residence for two brothers, Rajan and Nilesh, on a triangular corner plot. The initial brief was for twin bungalows with identical specifications, reflecting the common desire to visibly “separate” into two homes while sharing family land. The clients sought generous private spaces, clear segregation of individual families, and adequate parking and guest facilities. The challenge lay in resolving the awkward triangular geometry without compromising Vastu, privacy, or architectural dignity. The final brief—evolved through dialogue—was to create two fully equipped, independent family homes within a single, unified bungalow that expresses togetherness, offers crafted and personalized experiences for each family, and presents one strong, elegant frontage to the city.

The design process began with decoding the triangular site and its Vastu constraints, testing multiple massing and circulation options to align functional zones with auspicious orientations. The team worked to separate vehicular and pedestrian flows, carving out private parking, guest parking, and landscape pockets that rationalize the irregular plot. Internally, functions were layered vertically: shared lifestyle and service zones at ground, individual family domains at upper levels. Iterations focused on how to retain parity between the two homes while avoiding a “mirror-copy” feel. The double-height floating staircase and common entrance terrace emerged as key devices to bind the house volumetrically, while customized interior layouts for each brother ensured privacy and identity.

Shraddha is conceived as “one home, two hearts” – a single, bold bungalow form quietly holding two complete family homes within. The triangular corner plot, often seen as problematic in both architecture and Vastu, becomes the generating device for a dynamic yet disciplined form. Externally, the house reads as a unified, contemporary residence; internally, it carefully negotiates togetherness and independence. A common arrival layer with shared amenities anchors the ground, while the first and second floors unfold into individualized family suites. The double-height volume and floating stair act as a spatial hinge, bringing light and continuity. The architecture aspires to move beyond the idea of “divided property” and instead celebrates a shared legacy, offering crafted, Vastu-aligned, climate-responsive spaces that are simultaneously personal, familial, and urban in their expression.
