Atelier Kotak's Somaya Residence is a minimalist oasis for a couple, located in a burgeoning neighborhood of Vadodara. The 3BHK apartment was transformed into a 2-bedroom unit in just three months, from conception to completion. The apartment is filled with natural light and adorned with earthy elements and greenery.

The main door, crafted by local artisans, embraces minimalism and unpretentious design, setting the tone for the rest of the house. The living space features clean edge walls painted in a single shade, which serve as a canvas for intentional markers of space and function. The resulting timeless ambience of the space was exactly what the clients had requested. To produce a cold contrast with the warmth of wood and the softness of the marble, we opted for an exposed bison panel for the false ceiling.

The living room and the dining area were designed in a manner that allowed complete visual fluidity across the spaces. The marble-top dining table acts as an anchor, harmoniously connecting the living room and the kitchen. The kitchen, with its muted colors and stripped-down aesthetics, effortlessly melds into the surroundings.

Shifting base from a G+1 tenement to an apartment was a daunting ask in terms of creating adequate storage space. This was addressed by converting one of the bedrooms into a utility room. The utility room truly lives up to the name by providing space for storage, a home office, a Mandir, and a bedroom for guests. The room features an expansive storage unit finished in polished plywood which ensures minimal wear and tear.

Like the rest of the house, the function became supreme for spatial decisions in the bedrooms. A large wardrobe, which houses a pull-out vanity dresser on one end and a vertical storage unit on the other, frees up valuable space. The master bedroom allows the clients to wind down the day with a sense of tranquility and order.

The guest room, adorned in a soothing mint green hue, evokes a sense of calm and relaxation. An intelligently designed console unit discreetly conceals travel essentials, while a versatile wardrobe unit creates a welcoming atmosphere for visiting guests. Throughout the house, an aura of serenity and simplicity envelops every waking moment.

With the Somaya Residence, Atelier Kotak aims to bring to life a dwelling that becomes a comforting sanctuary, a respite from the demands of everyday life.
