When a home becomes a reflection of a journey, it holds the stories of places lived and lessons learned. For this family of three, returning from London after 15 years, their sojourn had left an indelible mark on their tastes, leaning toward a global aesthetic that is clean, modern, and timeless. “They wanted to take a departure from traditional elements and explore a more contemporary perspective”, mentions designer Aditi Lawate of her namesake practice, who manifested this vision to life in their spacious 4 bedroom apartment in Pune.

Spanning 2600 sqft, ‘Suave Vida’ is nestled in a gated society in the city’s western suburbs, and is home to a couple and their young daughter. Aditi reveals “Our design approach embraced contemporary chic sensibility, incorporating elements that subtly evoke the sophistication and nostalgia of their London experience.”

At the threshold, a Georgian entrance door with a Shakespeare knocker offers an eloquent nod to the quintessential charm of London dwellings. Stepping inside, an array of wooden battens grace the oblong foyer wall, accompanied by hooks for accessories and a robust console table positioned opposite. The living room, swathed in cool neutrals, unfolds as a space where tranquillity and togetherness coexist—an invitation to unwind or to gather in the company of loved ones. Though, what commands attention is an expansive open shelving unit that lines one of the walls, designed to exhibit the family’s cherished memorabilia from their many travels. A pair of Doric order pilasters, cast in gypsum, stand as silent sentinels of timeless elegance, while a piano, beloved by the musical father-daughter duo, brings a harmonious note to the serene atmosphere.

Modern luxury and free flow reigns supreme in the epicurean zone - the dining and kitchen gleam with golden matte accents, illuminated by a curated ensemble of lighting fixtures. “For a couple who loves to cook together, the kitchen’s island configuration was sculpted to encourage shared moments of conversation and casual dining”, avers Aditi. ”We chose anti-fingerprint laminates in a soft dusty pink for the kitchen cabinets, while rich brown leather envelops the dining chairs, adding warmth and texture to the space.” Cloaked in walnut veneer, a bar-cum-crockery unit introduces a deep, contrasting richness to this environ.

The bedrooms reflect a tapestry of unique styles, each coming alive with distinctive flair. In the master suite, a vivid tropical wallpaper arrests the eye, its hues mirrored in striking details like the cardinal red headboard and lounge chair. This boldness is balanced by a placid palette: white floor-to-ceiling wardrobes and a grey-themed reading nook, perfectly suited for the bibliophilic couple’s quiet retreats.

Whimsy takes centre stage in the daughter’s bedroom, with a design tailored for play and imagination. Doused in a light oak wood finish, the room unveils a harmonious choreography of furniture, each piece melding effortlessly into the next, crafting an unbroken, fluid narrative. The bespoke bunk bed, adorned with a series of arches, infuses the space with a playful charm and eschews a boxy look. A streamlined study corner adjoins, flowing into a low platform bed, where parents can settle in for peaceful bedtime stories and nurturing closeness.

Adorned with rose gold accents, the guest bedroom asserts its exceptional character. The back wall, draped in dual-toned greige panels, provides a muted canvas for the apricot beige upholstered bed. The fourth bedroom evolved into a media room, equipped with acoustic treatments for enhancing auditory precision. The juxtaposition of deep cerulean walls with tan furniture exhibits a vogue contrast, fashioning an ideal retreat for the family to relax and indulge in cinematic pleasures.
