Formed in 1999 and led by Irene Kronenberg and Alan Baranowitz, the team of BK Architects today comprises of international architects and designers belonging to varied cultures across the globe, with studios located in Tel Aviv and Amsterdam. Their designs aim to inspire the users and set their clients a class apart. Their works are an exemplar of excellent storytelling with enthusing narratives weaved around the context, client, culture and lifestyle consumers, thus forming a connection with both, the brand and its audience. The studio regards the existing and strives to enhance the same while broadening their perspectives. They work through multidisciplinary thinking and collaborations, creating designs that are timeless, which can be melded through time and keep a competitive energy and significance. BK Architects believe that the architecture of the structure that overlooks the Mediterranean should have the liberty to exhale, unwind and relish the surrounding vistas. The Pi Villa is designed as a simple glass box that does all of these.

The structure comprises of a concrete wall that marks the entrance to the villa while the remaining three walls offer striking views over the Mediterranean Sea from various parts of the house.

The project is designed as an exposed entity that demanded an external skin to give the residents a sense of privacy and shield them from the harsh sun. To meet these necessities, an electronically climate controlled brille-soleil has been designed as the external façade that the house can wear and remove as per its needs. With this technology, the studio has crafted a new typology in the realm of external facades.

Each and every space in the house controls the movement of the shading mechanism attached to it. Thus, the façades become indicators of the activities in the various areas of the house. The external skin of the villa is hence an integral part of the structure and the residents’ routine lives. The chronicles of the family and the structure can be read from the street with the feature of the brillesoleil.
