Set in the serene town of Kottayam, The Alcove is a refined residential renovation that reinterprets colonial European interiors through a soft, contemporary lens. Spanning 1,950 sq. ft., this home is a quiet celebration of restraint, texture, and timeless detailing where subtle colours and thoughtful craftsmanship take centre stage.

The entry sequence is intentionally understated, with a slim, custom-designed shoe rack tailored to the narrow passage, ensuring functionality without compromising flow. This leads seamlessly into the living room, where a bespoke sand-toned base TV unit becomes the visual anchor. Cane accents introduce warmth and tactility, while wainscoting above the unit, highlighted by customised lighting, adds a layer of classical sophistication. Vertical plywood panelling with delicate wooden beading draws inspiration from European interiors, lending rhythm and depth to the space.

An existing balcony has been reimagined as a private sit-out, thoughtfully absorbed into the living area to enhance both spatial perception and intimacy. The transition between the living and dining spaces is gently articulated through a wooden architrave, allowing openness while maintaining visual distinction. Positioned at this threshold, the prayer unit emerges as a serene focal point—its simple wooden form paired with subtle floral wallpaper, creating a meditative pause within the home.

The dining area is anchored by a six-seater table in cane and wood, complemented by a statement cane pendant light that casts a warm, ambient glow. Adjoining this space, the open kitchen follows a carefully curated palette. Reed green crockery units introduce a sense of continuity, while white wall cabinets, subway tile backsplashes, and select fluted glass shutters keep the space light and refined. A sliding partition connects the kitchen to the utility area—offering flexibility, openness, and privacy as required.
