A 64-seater restaurant in Belgaum designed as a contemporary dining space layered with subtle references to traditional craft and pattern. Organised around a central circulation spine, the design creates a continuous spatial experience that seamlessly connects the service core and dining areas.

Rather than functioning as a simple passage, the central pathway becomes an experiential axis that guides movement from the street into the restaurant. Patterned flooring marks the transition into the space, while a tropical mural wall acts as a visual anchor and photo booth moment. Above, the ceiling conceals air-conditioning services within a grid of framed panels with woven cane infill, introducing warmth, rhythm, and a more intimate sense of scale to the arrival experience.

The dining spaces are visually connected while remaining spatially distinct through wooden portals and frosted lattice partitions inspired by shoji screens. These layered interventions create intimate dining pockets within the larger floor plate without interrupting continuity. Continuous upholstered bench seating offers flexibility for varied group sizes, while curved wooden inner corners soften the geometry of the space.

Natural light plays a central role in shaping the atmosphere. Large glazed openings along the front facade establish a strong visual connection to the street, while frosted glazing at the rear diffuses soft daylight deep into the interiors. Vertical mirrors extend sight lines and enhance the perception of openness, making the restaurant feel airy, calm, and expansive.

The material palette is warm and tactile combining wood, cane, deep green flooring, and terracotta-toned upholstery that introduces a subtle pop to the interiors. Suspended geometric screen acts as a semi-transparent divider between dining zones, while custom hanging light fixtures bring rhythm and character to the ceiling plane.

Finished in a terracotta hue with large glazed openings, the facade creates a bold yet approachable identity that feels visually open and connected to the city outside.

Rooted in simplicity, proportion, and carefully resolved detailing, the project unfolds as a layered spatial experience shaped through movement, light, materiality, colour, and craft resulting in a restaurant that feels warm, contemporary, and thoughtfully grounded in context.
