Set within a 19-cent plot in the heart of Manjeri, Kerala, Gaping House stands as a bold architectural statement, seamlessly blending openness, nature, and refined design. Spanning 5500 sq. ft., this residence redefines traditional spatial organization by creating a continuous flow between its indoor and outdoor environments.

At the core of the design is a private courtyard that forms the soul of the residence. This lush oasis, accessible from both the bedrooms and the dining area, brings in natural light and ventilation, fostering a sense of tranquility. More than just a visual element, the courtyard ensures seamless spatial interaction, reinforcing the home's openness. The name Gaping House embodies this concept—where spaces flow into each other, dissolving boundaries and offering an expansive living experience.

Upon arrival, visitors are welcomed into a well-defined foyer, leading to a formal living space on the left. A striking travertine-clad wall discreetly conceals the staircase, adding an element of surprise and privacy. The ground floor accommodates two bedrooms, while the first floor houses the other two, including the parents' bedroom and the master suite, both of which open directly into the central courtyard. The dining area, also extending into this courtyard, enhances the fluid connection between spaces, allowing for an immersive indoor-outdoor experience.

The family living area is positioned to the side, featuring a soaring double-height volume that amplifies spatial grandeur. This section also includes a private sit-out, extending the living space while maintaining privacy. Even the master bathroom becomes a design statement, elevating everyday moments into an experience of understated luxury.

Externally, the residence is conceived as a composition of clean, boxy masses, enriched by a blend of natural stone finishes. The façade features a sophisticated palette of beige and slate grey slate cladding, lending an earthy yet contemporary appeal. A daring cantilevered sit-out slab adds architectural drama, while the grand wooden-accented entry door brings warmth and character. A wooden ceiling further accentuates the inviting aesthetic.

Internally, the material palette is refined yet bold. Warm beige Italian marble flooring establishes a calm foundation, contrasted by dark grey or black plastered walls that add depth and drama. Repeating patterns across ceilings, wall textures, and wooden elements create a rhythmic, cohesive visual language that subtly ties the entire home together.

More than just a house, Gaping House is a carefully curated experience—where architecture, materials, and nature converge to create a harmonious and desirable sanctuary. It stands as a testament to thoughtful design, ensuring that every space is not just lived in but truly experienced.
