A key design element was the integration of a central courtyard, which would serve as a living, breathing part of the home. Located within the common hall, this courtyard brings the outdoors inside, providing a green oasis filled with plants and trees. The open-roof design allows sunlight, rain, and breeze to touch the courtyard floor, creating a dynamic, ever-changing experience. This central space not only enhances the aesthetics but also promotes well-being by fostering a connection to nature, enabling the inhabitants to experience nature’s rhythms even when indoors.
The construction of Mausam was approached with a focus on modern techniques while respecting the local context. The choice of materials was vital to achieving both durability and simplicity. The structure primarily utilizes exposed cement bricks and concrete finishes, which contribute to the industrial aesthetic while offering longevity and sustainability. These materials were selected specifically to withstand the humid tropical climate, ensuring that the home remains resilient and functional over time.

For the interiors, we incorporated Kumizh, a locally sourced wood known for its cultural significance in the region. This wood was used for paneling and custom furniture, adding a warm, organic touch to the otherwise minimal and industrial design. The rich texture and natural tones of the Kumizh wood contrasted beautifully with the starkness of the concrete, softening the space and creating a harmonious balance between modernity and tradition.
The layout of Mausam includes two floors with four spacious bedrooms, featuring attached balconies that maximize natural light and ventilation. The open-plan design ensures an efficient flow of space while maintaining an airy, unobstructed atmosphere. Large windows and strategically placed openings invite sunlight and breeze into every room, while the balconies provide private outdoor areas for relaxation and enjoyment of the surrounding landscape.
