Set in the city of Mehsana, near Ahmedabad, this residence is an elegant fusion of Indian and European architectural elements, designed with a keen sensitivity to the local context. The clients, frequent travellers to Europe, sought to merge European aesthetics with the practicality and cultural nuances of traditional Indian architecture, all while addressing the challenges posed by a compact plot. The brief, though straightforward, called for a sophisticated design solution that seamlessly integrated both styles without disrupting the local architectural vernacular.

Space planning played a pivotal role in meeting the client’s functional and aesthetic needs. Given the constraints of the plot, the design carefully balances natural light, ventilation, and the principles of Vastu. Openings on the north and west facades maximize natural light, while avoiding the harsher sunlight from the south, reducing heat gain and maintaining privacy. The layout incorporates large balconies and decks in every room, enhancing cross-ventilation and creating a comfortable living environment despite the hot climate. The residence's climate-responsive design is defined by its balance of light and insulation, keeping the interiors cool and well-lit throughout the day.

The exterior facade is an elegant mix of natural white stone cladding, large Georgian windows, and sloping roofs that evoke the charm of a European villa. Black edge profiles create sleek outlines, while wooden soffits introduce warmth, offering a harmonious contrast to the cooler tones of the stone. A standout feature is the Y-shaped column supporting the large sloping roof, which breaks the linearity of the facade and introduces dynamic play between light and shadow, making the structure visually intriguing at different times of the day. The double-height glass-clad entrance, crowned with a striking 12-foot veneer door, makes a bold statement, setting the tone for the rest of the house.

The interiors are marked by luxurious yet understated detailing. A dramatic triple-height foyer, illuminated by a bespoke chandelier of onyx light pieces, sets the stage for the opulent design within. The dining table, crafted from semi-precious stone with brass inlay, exemplifies the custom craftsmanship seen throughout the home. Bedrooms are muted, serene spaces featuring minimal moulding, wooden floors, and rich fabric textures that elevate the design, with each room offering access to private balconies adorned with planters.
