The design process for the 2900 sq.ft. residence located in Thalassery revolves around the concept of merging modern and traditional architecture while prioritizing sustainability. The planning originates from an imaginary axis forming grids, evolving into functional walls that define three distinct functional zones on the site, thoughtfully considering existing vegetation and the well. Natural and vernacular materials, like exposed laterite, enhance the microclimate, complemented by reusing 35% of wood and roof tiles salvaged from the old residence. Solar panels are integrated for renewable energy, and a rainwater harvesting system sustains the Lilly pond. Collaborative refinement, precise construction, and post-evaluation ensure a harmonious, eco-friendly home celebrating local heritage and contemporary living. 

During the design stage of their newly proposed residence, the client expressed the need for four bedrooms in the house. Additionally, the client specifically desired a traditional bathroom attached to the well, they want the design to reflect the essence of northern Kerala's architecture. Furthermore, the client emphasized their preference for spaciousness throughout the entire residence, aiming for open and comfortable living spaces. Safety is also a top priority for the client, and they expect the design to incorporate appropriate safety measures. Overall, the client's vision is to create a home that not only fulfils their functional needs but also providing ample space and a secure environment for their family.
