Designed as a serene weekend retreat, this farmhouse seamlessly blends with its natural surroundings, offering a tranquil escape for the family. Every aspect of the design was meticulously crafted to ensure harmony with the environment, prioritizing a constant connection to nature that enhances the sensory experience of the inhabitants. The rustling of leaf litter, the soothing sound of flowing water from the irrigation canal, and the shaded canopy of mature mango trees were key elements guiding the design process. Given the family's active social life, adaptable spaces were created to accommodate their guests comfortably.
The first step was identifying the perfect location for the farmhouse within the 18-acre coconut farm. While exploring, they discovered four mature mango trees surrounding a central irrigation culvert. These trees, planted by the client’s great-grandfather, held deep sentimental value for her. The tranquil sound of the flowing water further solidified this spot as the ideal setting for the home.
The entire structure was raised by a meter to align with the existing pump. The irrigation culvert was redesigned into three levels to amplify the sound of flowing water. At the second level, it extends into a natural swimming pool, which then flows through the farm. The combination of rustling leaves and flowing water creates a calming atmosphere for the residents.
The client, an avid collector of art and antiques, inspired them to design the interiors as a canvas for her collection. They incorporated a rustic backdrop to complement her treasures, drawing inspiration from vernacular craftsmanship and traditional art forms. Refurbished doors, windows, columns, and furniture add a dramatic touch to the tropical modern interior.
