Architectural elevations often evoke different emotions: some draw you in, others surprise you, while a few simply make you feel at home. This project manages to balance all three.

At 4,500 square feet, the house never feels too large. There’s a relatable quality to the form of the house that immediately feels inviting, while the composition of materials catches your attention, you notice the green window frames first. Then the tiled roofs. Then the plants that seemed to have made themselves part of the house. The exterior materials are deliberately chosen. The stone cladding keeps the facade grounded and the brick adds warmth while the black metal creates a modern contrast and nothing here is ornamental for the sake of it,every element feels purposeful.

The house is organised around a central courtyard which acts as the heart and lungs of the house. It helps control the microclimate of the home, while guiding airflow throughout the house. The internal courtyard references the essence of a traditional Kerala courtyard with a fresh approach. It brings in greenery into the heart of the home, blurring the threshold between inside and outside. The formal living and dining spaces wrap around this courtyard. From here, you understand how the house works. The dining opens to a patio overlooking a private garden. The family living is planned in a way that it gets privacy from the rest of the house and so is the kitchen.

Inside, the earth-toned exterior continues naturally. The material and colour palette stays consistent throughout the house: Stone, brick, wood. This continuity is brought in through handpicked furniture, fabrics, and textures. Green accents appear in doors, window frames, and backdrops, sometimes subtle, sometimes a little bolder. It’s a small touch but it brings the whole house together.

What makes the house memorable is not a single dramatic feature. It is the consistency. It is the way materials blend with each other. The clarity of the layout that makes you move through it effortlessly.

By the time you step outside, the memory of being inside stays with you, the wind moving through the house, the stone glowing after the rain, the openness of the courtyard at the centre. It leaves a lasting impression and it's moments like these that reveal what a home really is.
