AANGAN – “THE HOUSE OF LIGHT AND SHADOWS”

Aangan features a well-designed courtyard, serving as the central space for interaction in the home, bringing nature into the interiors and creating a welcoming atmosphere. Trees are planted in the southwest corner to lower the temperature while seasonal flowers add a pleasant aroma to the fresh air. There is no AC planned in the common areas or courtyard and allowed the natural & cool breeze to flow throughout the house. Sunlight plays hide & seek with all the members of family through doors and windows, creating beautiful patterns and enhancing the warmth of the space.

The design includes traditional jaali patterns made from terracotta, kota stone, granite, and black kadappa, reflecting the charm of Indian traditional architecture. Traditional teak wood furniture contrasts with the Jaisalmer flooring, adding visual interest.

This unique design honors traditional Indian architecture while incorporating modern elements, creating a serene and inviting space that brings connection, comfort, and balance with nature. Reducing the carbon footprint while construction & minimizing carbon emission through the life cycle of the house was goal of the design team.
