This 3Bhk house spanned around 2300 sqft and was finished in a very minimal and modern aesthetic. Conceived for a family of three, the project thoughtfully optimizes a compact 5-cent plot to create a modern and efficient living environment. Key challenge in this was to design expansive spaces for a very close knit family within a very small footprint. We worked on it from the inside out while keeping in mind the space constraints. All the common areas were curated in such a way that visually they are interconnected while keeping them physically demarcated.

Levels were introduced to separate the living space from the dining and kitchen area. This gave a feeling of clearly moving from one functional space to the other while avoiding doors or other barriers.  The formal living was designed as a very minimal and quaint space which opens out into a patio, which enlarged the space and invited the greenery into the house. The mezzanine level which served as a library/family space overlooked the dining and the formal living areas becoming the literal and figurative pivot of the house.

The open kitchen with a mini breakfast counter added to the layered interaction one would have with the key functional spaces. The double height ceiling and large glass doors which opened out to a patio was intended to add a feeling of grandeur to the dining space thereby masking the actual smaller footprint of the space.

A guest bedroom was added in the ground floor which is connected to the common toilet - accessible from the dining area. The master bedroom and daughter's room were housed on the first floor separated out from the guest accessible spaces on the ground floor. The daughters room features a platform bed, a study area and a bay window seating which enables the bedroom to be used in multiple ways.

The form and shell of the house was sculpted as a solid mass with minimal openings on the south to limit the effect of our hot tropical sunlight and to add privacy. The larger openings on the east and west ensured that the living, dining and kitchen areas are well lit while adding a view of greenery.
