The architect's own house is a fascinating reflection of their design philosophy and creativity. It's a space where they have experimented with innovative ideas, sustainable materials, and unique spatial arrangements, showcasing their skills in a personal and intimate way. The house is situated on a 15m wide road facing south with an existing neem tree at the front.

The process of reimagining the old house and prioritizing larger common spaces and seating areas shows a focus on functionality and community. The blend of old and new elements likely adds character to the space

The spatial planning of this house is such that the entry of the house starts with a double-height vertical courtyard with skylight on top, giving the maximum light and creating a dramatic visual effect, making the area feel larger and more airy. The double-height courtyard with a skylight is a way to bring in natural light and create a sense of openness. The way the house opens up to a large common space, incorporating the living room, dining, and another court, creates a sense of flow and community. The zoning of the house, with bedrooms on the west side and the kitchen on the east, is well thought out.

The kitchen's design inspired by wheat grain is a lovely nod to the natural world.

The use of large louver windows and bay windows is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing. The adjustable louvers offer control over natural light and airflow, making it perfect for different seasons. And the bay windows in the bedrooms add a touch of elegance and charm, providing additional space and natural light.

The use of natural materials and raw elements in the house is very thoughtful. The house is imagined to be a “Vertical Tree Growing”, where the tress starts from origin i.e the entrance court, further moving onto other spaces. The leaves of this tree fall onto the slab and dry up, which are seen on the slab from below.

The exposed raw concrete slab with leaf imprints is a unique and beautiful touch. The stone flooring, particularly the Sedam stone, adds warmth and texture to the space. The stone is combined in the form of patterns with Jaisalmer and Marble in different spaces. The incorporation of traditional geometrical rangoli patterns with different stones is a great way to add cultural significance and visual interest. For instance, the entrance court is considered as the origin of the house resembling flower buds which bloom into other spaces.

Children’s bedroom has the star flower, children being the star of the family. The symbolism behind

each pattern, such as the flower buds, tulips, Mogra and star flower, adds an emotional and personal touch to each space. The combination of shapes and forms in the common areas creates a sense of continuity and flow. The attention to detail and thoughtfulness in the design make this house truly special.

Another challenge was to control the heat and reduce the temperature from the south outside. The house being south facing, brick jaali façade is designed such that it compresses hot air and allows it to rise and escape through the skylight. The brick pattern adds a unique touch to the exterior.

The minimal contemporary furniture style fits perfectly with the overall aesthetic. The use of natural materials like wooden patti's and bamboo cane adds warmth, while the clean lines and simple shapes keep the space feeling calm and serene. Each bedroom has its own essence, reflecting the user's personality. A lot of thought is put into creating a space that's not just functional but also emotionally resonant. Overall, the house seems like a perfect blend of form and function!
