Regal Louvered French doors at living room entry acts as a
prelude to the elegance that lies beyond, combined with the classy picture
frame wall moulding, they envelop the living room in enthrall. The French
doors, in living room along with the bedrooms, have been retained and redone. The vintage charm of the living room also comes alive in the
re-upholstered heirloom chairs whose indigo is counterpoised with discernible
sober tones of the room.
On the other side of the living room, one can notice the two
sets of bypass doors. “Challenge was to cater to clients need for each space to
be private and open at the same time so as to maintain the Purdah system.” Sliding
bypass doors are used here to delineate living room-guest room-family sitting
in three parts and yet affording it to function as a single space. This
permitted maximum permeability without compromising on privacy.
Another traditional space- the Prayer room, reverberates
with good vibes and pure thoughts. This rectangle space fitted with glass doors
on both sides echoes open prayer niches of an era bygone.Family sitting is another vital space where the family comes
together to dine in the traditional Memon style. With just a sofa headlining
the space, it is kept uber-elementary and is remarkably comforting.
In the two bedrooms, Somber headboards and cupboards
juxtaposed against pastel walls headline the space and custom made beds and
bedside chests tune in the contemporary tones of comfort. The painting ‘Blossom
twins’ featuring in the bedroom enlivens and soothes and the ‘Golden Tree’ in
the master bedroom exudes vibrancy. Master bedroom leads to and has
exclusive access to the whirlpool tub in the courtyard- nestled underneath the
natural light filtering through the glass roof panel and surrounded by checkered
vertical gardens- which exalts the whole experience. Kitchen, embellished with all
the modern equipment and storage, scores high on ergonomic value. Here the
copious space is sentried by glass doors allowing enough light to make this a
bright space by day and thanks to the swanky lights, a golden haloed silhouette
by night.
Most of the furniture around the house is bespoke, designed
and produced by the studio. Many pieces across the home are to behold like the
table in living room which the designer fondly calls ‘Three perfect strangers’
but he is particularly fond of the kitchen cupboard-cum- room divider. The
piece was custom-built keeping in mind the client’s love for collecting china
and other crockeries from around the world. It features a display glass cabinet
and serving window with integrated lighting. Done in teal with a section in
white, it looks stunning. “As a designer, It felt like a piece with which you
can romance. For this project, I knew this was my chef-d’ouevre.”
The verdure that shines humbly bind the two eras together- being
the omnipresent element. From stepped gardens that elaborate the path from the
iron gates to the living room to the house plants that ornate the entire space,
this abode is teeming with life. Welcoming freshness of these blushing beauties
add a meaningful respite and color.
Across the home, Pastel walls and marble flooring enunciate
the underlying warmth and grace. Now as you move amidst the peace and calm of
the charming walls of the ‘Dada House’, you get a warm-fuzzy feeling of an elderly
figure smiling down at you.
