Cafés, when meticulously designed, can transport patrons to a world where time slows down and every moment lingers. Feranoz Patisserie & Café, nestled in Hyderabad’s lively Film Nagar, embodies this very essence. Conceived by Ar. Ibrahim Ahmed, Principal Architect and founder of Ulysses Design Studio, it is a love letter to the Parisian art of slow living, inviting guests to savour, pause, and find serenity in an increasingly hurried world. With classical European detailing and a timeless aesthetic, the space offers an immersive experience rooted in elegance, refinement, and attention to every last detail.

Spanning 1,700 sq. ft. indoors and 800 sq. ft. outdoors, Feranoz has been masterfully zoned to offer versatility and intimacy in equal measure. On the ground floor, cosy four- and six-seater arrangements welcome visitors alongside a show-stopping 30-foot pastry and cake display that anchors the space. The first-floor mezzanine offers a layered spatial experience, featuring intimate arrangements for 3-4 and 6 people that overlook the vibrant café below. Meanwhile, the north-facing outdoor area transforms into a lush retreat framed by greenery and curated seating clusters. Each corner is purposefully designed, allowing for a smooth transition between quiet introspection, social gatherings, and relaxed people-watching.

The client envisioned an intimate, soulful patisserie that exudes warmth while standing resilient against the urban din. A key design challenge involved mitigating noise from the busy main road. A further spatial constraint arose from a water sump located in the outdoor area. These were resolved with thoughtful and site-specific strategies: tall, bushy red machera plants were introduced along the boundary wall to buffer sound and visual distractions. At the same time, a raised deck with metal framing and tile flooring was constructed over the sump to maximise usability without compromising comfort or aesthetics.

Natural light plays a pivotal role in animating the interiors. Large windows frame the landscape, creating a seamless flow between the indoor and outdoor zones. They invite sunlight to pour in, casting dynamic shadows that shift with the day, bringing vitality and rhythm to the space. This deliberate blurring of boundaries allows guests to enjoy their treats amidst dappled sunlight and lush green views — a true celebration of the indoor-outdoor experience.

The design vocabulary is a graceful blend of classic Parisian influences and modern flourishes. Inside, deep wood tones are paired with cane-back chairs and intricate mouldings, evoking old-world charm while maintaining a contemporary sensibility. Arched windows, balustrades, and faux balconies echo the elegance of historic Parisian buildings, while a monochromatic colour palette reinforces the café’s European poise. Teak wood lends gravitas to the counter and bespoke furniture, while granite table tops and powder-coated metal chairs ensure longevity and resilience for outdoor settings.

The staircase is a sculptural element in its own right, featuring leather-finished granite steps and teak wood handrails — a subtle nod to craftsmanship and continuity. The café’s façade complements the interiors with classical finesse, featuring cornices, canopies, and MCM limestone-like cladding that create a cohesive design language extending from the exterior to the interior.

Each piece of fixed and loose furniture has been custom-designed to echo the café’s classical ethos. Lighting and elevation details sourced from Roshni Lights and MCM cladding suppliers further enhance the aesthetic. High bar chairs positioned near the windows invite guests to indulge in the quintessential Parisian pastime of people-watching, adding a chic, urban edge to the otherwise serene ambience.

Feranoz Patisserie & Café is more than a café—inspired by Parisian confectioneries and bakeries, it boasts a design language that evokes an immediate sense of warmth and nostalgia. Through its thoughtful planning, nuanced materiality, and atmospheric design, it offers a refined yet accessible experience—where elegance is not imposed but quietly, delightfully revealed.
