This 4200 sq.ft. built up 4 BHK home for a nuclear family, wanting blend of modern and contemporary styles. The design concept was inspired from a medley of ideas streamed from the designer’s experience. Komil Patel & associates have designed this luxurious home from scratch, incorporating the client’s needs for their home to resonate with their youthful personalities, so a colour play, along with a neutral backdrop was introduced allowing the palate to effortlessly flow from one room to other.
Talking of the elevation we observe a play of boxes protruding from a frame structure. This frames are not an extra added element, instead are the structural members. The same pattern in in cooperated in the lay outing of the plan as well as in the interiors – the use of grids frames. This gave the space a rather contemporary style. Fusing contemporary with elegance, the elevation holds geometric patterned rotating metal screen giving the upper level a beautiful play of shadow on the flooring while allowing cool breeze in. This screens are divided in panels that can be opened individually and also as one big wide opening so as to obtain enough to lit up and give good air circulation to the first floor when kept open.
Over to cater requirements of following basic vastu. The planning started off with placing the areas in grids where, the two big blocks-living room and dining, kitchen were placed on either sides of the staircase being a threshold to give each space its private yet a semi private gathering feel. Also keeping in mind the adjoining existing built, the frontage was given the maximum opening rather giving a peeing view on other sides.
This north facing plot was given an east entry from the foyer having a framed geometrically adorned screen in order to cut the direct vision in this open layout of living room. . We divided the home such that the formal living dining kitchen puja room- family areas and parent’s room are located on the ground floor. Where the double height dining is a warm space, welcoming conversations. Explaining the colour palate, the selected colour scheme comprised of neutral with soothing tones of browns, beige. Enclosed with the sliding doors, letting the piece of landscape out side be a apart of the dining inviting flexibility. The puja block covered in Ambaji marble inlayed with sandstone giving it a total Indian urban look having double elevated ceiling is housed next to the utility, juxtaposing that helps to hide the utility by vision.
Branching out from the dining area, the parent’s room hones an elegant style. In addition to the king sized bed, the ledge window seating is the teatime spot while overlooking the outside creating a cosy room ambiance. Enhanced with a motley of soft pastel patterned fabrics partnered with warm woody tones.
The wooden cantilever Staircase with brass detailing, having a cutout slit in the ceiling to lit up the space as there is no other light source given in walls for privacy. A beautiful shadow is created on the wall at the landing that has been articulated with some landscape art over it to make it feel live and fresh.
The first floor has a layout with a common area connecting two daughter’s rooms and a master suite. Off the 3 bedrooms on this level, the daughter’s room is sectioned off awarding the occupants privacy. Whilst the other daughter’s brief was to have a visual connect with the family areas below bridging the private and semi-private areas. The bedroom interior is muted and is combined with in the same colour tones. The walls are kept subtle with texture and flooring being in marble which acts as a muted canvas over which the soft patterns in fabrics can be the highlights along with certain furniture detailing. As we talk of the master suite on this floor having a huge window with planter catering a brilliant light and cross-ventilation. This planter is also duplicated as below in the living room. As we seen this from the elevation outside, both this planters are framed with in the structural members giving a look of boxes juxtaposing in the frame. In interiors the use of fabrics and finishes that’s been used are open grained veneer and finished in natural polish blends so well with the furniture fabrics mostly in cotton with leather giving it a luxe look. The colour palate which is muted in some areas are vibrant in some. Having been said the couples social life, they wished to have an entertainment area to have gathering; a fix with the terrace. An intricate fabric clad on the walls focalises the space with a joyful vibe. Where it also addressing technical aspects as the speakers are hidden behind the fabric wall and also giving a sound benefits. It’s a perfect place to spend time with or alternatively can be converted into a space where lovely soiree can be hosted.
On concluding, this duplex house is dynamic and rich with the vibrant exploration, while muted and grounded tactile finishes, the theme that has tied the house up in and ensuring a restful house.
