A home is a space bustling with activity but is also a calm and safe sanctuary to the ones residing within. The definition of a house has evolved over the years; other than fulfilling the basic needs of being a habitable space, a home is now a space that has stretched beyond the threshold of being a ‘need’ into becoming a luxurious must-have. The Garre residence has been designed to be built as a fortress that proudly stands out from the rest of the neighborhood.

The brief shared by the client was to accommodate an office on the 1st floor while the residence was to be planned on the 2nd and 3rd floor. The terrace was to cater to as a recreational space for the kids. The exterior façade has been designed in manner such that one can clearly distinguish the office space from the residence. The office floor is kept extremely simple while the residence on the other hand is enveloped within an O-band that not only helps frame the façade but give the structure a solid and larger than life appeal.

The residence comprises of a spacious living area, a puja room, six bedrooms, a family lounge and a terrace at the uppermost level. The flooring laid out in Satuario marble helps set a very neutral color palette for the entire house. The aim was to draw attention to the Black Marquina wall cladding thus adding a sense of grandeur to the drawing room. As one moves ahead, the travertine marble cladding on the double height wall forms the perfect backdrop for the internal staircase. In addition to this, the chandelier hanging from the chevron patterned ceiling further accentuates the spatial volume. The back-lit onyx marble used in the family lounge not only illuminates the space with its dim yet ambient lighting but also complements the heavily adorned Pooja mandir entrance. Every bedroom has been designed so as to suit the interests of its user.

The living room on the second floor opens up to a landscaped terrace. One of the design requirements was to create a space within the house that would serve well for relaxation. The soothing sound of flowing water brings in a sense of relaxation to the environment. With a Buddha statue set against the waterfall and the artificial grass carpet, we had the perfect set-up for a meditation/yoga space. Another interesting feature of this landscape area is its retractable façade. These sliding aluminium panels give the user the freedom to control the incoming light as and when needed. Lastly the terrace on the 4th floor comprises of a multi-pupose room and a cricket turf; a space where the family comes together.

The Garre residence in Vijayawada preserves the innate nature of a home whilst intertwining comfort, high-end functionality and aesthetics to create a space to thrive in.
