Nestling In Ahmedabad, Gujarat, HVR is a residence bungalow crafted in harmony with its user. Amidst Urban Surroundings, it is a peaceful corner plot in a gated residence society. The Initial Idea revolved around creating little barriers to allow daylight inside without losing the sense of warmth of a home. Drawing inspiration from the cultural richness of Gujarat, the design narrative is rooted in a cherished local saying, "ધરતી નો છેડો ઘર" meaning the earth ends at home, embodying a deep connection between humans and dwellings.

The spatial planning of the site is derived from various factors like vastu, climate, and internal connection to make space more experientially rich and soothing. With road connections on two sides and neighboring three-storey buildings on the other two, the house is built on a squarish plot. The plinth is raised three feet above the ground to open up the views. The layout attempts to convert the squarish plot into nine square grids.

On the east, the living room extends into the east garden, same as the dining area on the west extends outdoors. The puja room connects to the south garden in the front and the court in the center. The peripheral squares adhere to different functions, and the central square opens to the sky, providing ample daylight and connection throughout the house. To articulate visual connections with daylight, every door and window stands unique and was carpentered on-site. It allows the members of the house to interact with the outside but protects privacy, disallowing passersby to peek inside.

On the first floor, the rooms are connected by a passage that opens into the court. It creates opportunities for interaction outside the rooms, with sufficient privacy, once inside. To maximize the soft even light from the north the stairs are designed to make the step thin. The Railings are structural to support the weight and prevent humming.

Walls on the south are recessed, with projections and greens to lower the heat. The terrace, shaded with pergolas & smaller openings through louvres at the entrance allows for the entering wind to cool down. Services are placed in the west to create a barrier, allowing naturally cooler interior double-height space in the east.

The doors and windows are made from reclaimed wood sourced from a demolished church in a nearby village. White walls and white marble, along with wood and plants make a more earthen Gandhian neutral palette. In this house, light plays with materials and creates a dynamic environment throughout the day, allowing users to occupy the house and make it into a home.
