The residential renovation project “Koodaram” is designed for a family of four. Comprising 12 Cent of site area, this plot of land is located on the part of the Calicut, the second larges metropolitan city in Kerala. Two storied building with a total area of 286Sqm and has well- lit and ventilated spaces which are evolved with respect to its surrounding and contextual climate.

KOODARAM – A Tent/Umbrella/Pavilion provide a connection between the physical and emotional as well as the comprehensive way of living and belonging. It is concealed from its surrounding and also merged with the context by incorporating landscape elements along with it. The random rubble masonry on the exterior walls gives a rustic and elegant look to the building.

The client need was initially to do a quick renovation that entailed fixing the toilets, installing a couple of wall and general painting. Upon site analysis, we determined that the house was deteriorating due to leak and moisture issues. Moreover, the home had narrow spaces that did not offer good lighting and natural ventilation. This challenge also gave as the opportunity to provide the building a new identity more adapted to the requirements of contemporary life and to the climatic context of our region.
