A single-storey home that left the existing well untouched. The well in the front yard gives good water and became the plan’s fixed point. On a 60-cent plot in Mallapally, we filled on the east—creating the lawn there—and cut back the north, keeping that green carpet as the house’s front.

That made-east lawn drives the design. The master bedroom opens to a balcony; dining and family living each spill onto patios that face the yard. From the street, a car porch and archway mark arrival. Inside, the dining room acts as hinge, touching formal living, open kitchen, family living and a patio without corridors. A modest bar counter links kitchen and family space. Four bedrooms with attached baths sit to the rear; service runs through a working kitchen screened from view.

At 3,500 sq ft, the house trades ornament for climate. Arch openings, ceramic roof tiles, and stone cladding give quiet modernity; deep overhangs and cross-ventilation hold to Kerala’s tropical logic. Stone, plaster and timber keep the palette calm. The patios are outdoor rooms—shaded by day, open by evening.

The well stays; the lawn was devised; openings follow. Quiet moves, nothing forced—a house that settles in rather than tries to impress.
