"KRIPA" is a residence that reflects the personality of its homeowners—open, minimal, and rooted in functionality. Located on a compact 1500 sq. ft. irregularly shaped northwest corner plot, the house was designed in response to the evolving context of an old residential neighborhood where many homes are now being rebuilt or renovated.

From the outset, the clients had a clear vision: the house had to be functional, clutter-free, and a true extension of their personalities. This strong brief, combined with a challenging plot and a tightly-knit urban setting, informed every design decision. The aim was to create open, light-filled spaces while maintaining privacy—a balance achieved through a fluid layout, strategic articulation, and thoughtful openings.

The layout minimizes enclosed private spaces and emphasizes shared areas that serve as hubs for entertainment and interaction. A striking double-height volume in the living room brings in abundant natural light and air, enhanced further by skylights positioned after a detailed study of the sun’s path. Internal walls were minimized, especially between the living, dining, and kitchen areas, to form one expansive communal space that promotes visual continuity and cross ventilation.

The architecture employs a subtle material palette to reflect the owner's calm and refined demeanor. The dominant theme is white, balanced with Burma teakwood, aluminum, grey vitrified tiles, and exposed materials like BLACK LAVA stone, brick, and concrete Jaali’s. These Jaali’s serve multiple purposes: offering privacy, reducing heat gain—especially from the western sun—and allowing filtered light and air into the interiors.

Landscaping is kept lush but low-maintenance, using tropical species to infuse the home with greenery while remaining practical. The terrace garden and internal green pockets further enhance the indoor-outdoor connection. Environmentally responsible design choices like solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems help reduce the home’s ecological footprint.

KRIPA's design embraces openness—spaces connect seamlessly, light pours in throughout the day, and strategic openings reduce the need for artificial lighting or cooling. Grey vitrified flooring throughout enhances spatial continuity, while minimal, custom-designed furniture complements the architectural simplicity without compromising comfort.

Overall, KRIPA is a product of thoughtful compromises between constraints and aspirations. It redefines urban living in a compact plot by integrating simplicity, sustainability, and soulful design—offering a home that is not only easy to live in but also deeply personal.
