Nestled in the serene cityscape of Perinthalmanna, Kerala, "Manahil" stands as a recently completed residential masterpiece by Cognition Design Studio. This 4500 sq. ft. contemporary house, designed with a minimalist approach, embodies the perfect blend of modernity and tranquility, tailored meticulously for a doctor couple and their two children. Despite its urban location, the house offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The design ethos of Manahil centers on achieving a harmonious balance between openness and privacy. The front façade features large windows and stone cladding, complemented by a balcony extending from the first-floor bedroom, offering a picturesque view of the surroundings. This design ensures ample natural light while maintaining the residents' privacy.

Visitors are greeted by a spacious open sit-out area, flanked by two verdant courtyards. This welcoming space, complete with a swing, sets the tone for the home's inviting atmosphere. From the sit-out, guests can access the formal living area through a dedicated door, while another entrance leads to the main hall.

The main hall is a striking double-height space, enhancing the sense of openness and grandeur. A steel and mahogany wood staircase is elegantly positioned on the left side of the main entry, leading to the first floor. Adjacent to the family living area, the dining space boasts a similar double-height ceiling, further emphasizing the volume and openness of the interior. The family living area  is also a double-height space with a wooden ceiling, accentuated by a modern chandelier hanging gracefully from above, creating a cozy yet stylish space for family gatherings.

Tucked under the staircase is a discreet wash area, ingeniously concealed by two fluted glass partition panels. This design choice ensures functionality without compromising the aesthetic integrity of the space. The semi-open kitchen, accessible from the main hall, follows a sleek black and grey theme. With wooden tile splashbacks, glass cupboards with built-in LED lighting, and a plethora of modular accessories, the kitchen is both practical and visually appealing. A doorway from the kitchen leads to the more utilitarian working kitchen.

From the dining area, residents can access two bedrooms: a guest bedroom and a master bedroom. The master bedroom features a walk-in wardrobe and a cozy deck area accessible via sliding doors, providing a private outdoor retreat. Additionally, a prayer room, ablution area, and common toilet are conveniently located on the ground floor, accessible from the main hall.

Ascending the staircase, residents are greeted by an abundance of natural light flooding the hall through a large linear skylight. The first floor comprises three minimally designed bedrooms and a study area. The study area is uniquely accessible via a bridge that spans the space between the family living and dining areas on the ground floor, adding an element of connectivity and openness. The first-floor bedrooms maintain the minimalist aesthetic, with one front-facing bedroom featuring a balcony, offering a private outdoor space. The interior design is characterized by clean lines, subtle shades of grey and white, and tasteful wooden accents, emphasizing space, light, and height.

Large windows are strategically placed in all common areas, featuring black frame UPVC for a modern touch. These windows offer unobstructed views of the meticulously curated exterior landscape, adorned with lush tropical vegetation. Natural stone paving and pearl grass lawns enhance the outdoor aesthetics, creating a seamless blend between indoor and outdoor living spaces. The furnishings have been thoughtfully selected to ensure they do not obstruct the spatial flow, adhering to the minimalist design philosophy. The overall design emphasizes the importance of volume, natural light, and an unobstructed flow of space, creating a harmonious living environment.
