Mizhivu by The Design Room

Designed for an NRI family and their parents, this residence is nestled within the lush tropical landscape of Kerala, embracing the region's climate and natural beauty. Located on a marshy site, the house is elevated on a raised plinth to address the site's conditions while creating a strong visual connection with the surrounding greenery. The lower level accommodates the car porch, while the intermediate level is thoughtfully landscaped, forming a seamless transition between the ground and the living spaces above. Drawing inspiration from the timeless character of Kerala architecture, the residence features a traditional sloping roof reinterpreted through a contemporary tropical design language. Natural materials, open spaces, and a strong dialogue with the landscape come together to create a home that is rooted in its context while responding to the lifestyle of a modern multi-generational family.
