Just off the western express highway , with a view of the runway , on the 13th floor , sits this multi-generational home, who at heart are both minimalists and closely knit. Buying the newly built property was an opportunity for them to completely redefine their interior styles while still keeping in mind the functionality of the space. “Mul Bagh” as the space is called, celebrates the Indian Heritage through art, fabrics and natural stones.. etc in every way of its being The entire shell boasts of large amounts of sunlight coming in and with perfect cross ventilation, a perfect opportunity for us to use cladding on the walls without it feeling too crowded. With the basic bioclimatic principles being taken care of at this location, we could explore the possibility of using different claddings while still retaining the expanse of the house.
Mul Bagh as the name suggests, takes from cotton and with this implementing the approach of it being organic and as close to nature as possible. With this Project , we wanted to recreate this experience of walking into an organic land. To further amplify the same experience, a conscious decision was taken to incorporate the use of shapes, forms, prints and patterns onto the walls and partitions , storages and other vertical surfaces.
At the Entry of the house, you are greeted with an unveiling garden view wallpaper , that opens the Lacquered Black Door into a calming space resulting into a converging transition into a tranquil environment. At its core, the idea was to keep it singular in approach to make it all look like one garden that sort of then breaks into further sects. This led into using an array of specific shapes and patterns in a particular disposition to further articulate the
concept of Singularity at large. Be it the use of the stone back for the master bedroom or the fossil stone usage in the master bathroom , there are all these elements that create this symphony of materials.
In order words , It’s like a journey through a garden where you are experiencing different textures but they all root out of this emotion called India and how can we celebrate every product that we could find locally that added to the scheme on Design on this Project , to its full potential.
As another Detail, while still maintaining the soul of the concept , Singularity, the Living Room has partition screens that have a botanical motif like cuttings on it and the wallpaper behind the sofa follows through the idea of using prints while it also feels mulmul when touched. Apart from this we wanted to do a wrap across the entire Kids' space on the walls and vertical surfaces that would showcase their favourite elements or characters but do it in a way which is not very overwhelming, as these spaces all open up into the living room and form a larger conversational space.
Its a multi-generational home that caters to different needs and different people at the same time and yet has to work and function together. Keeping this in mind , we came up with a thought of creating transitional spaces like having the common spaces open up into the kids room, the kids room further opening up into their study and then again also flows back into the living . The kitchen is also semi - open so essentially the living room is the largest space into the house making it collaborative and conversational. The home owners really like spending time together all day sometimes, which also meant that these spaces
needed to blend into each other well and which is why the kids room, while it has its own personality, it was ideated as though it looked like a feature. It also worked as a maze for the kids as it has multiple entry and exit points. This extended further to also cater to the multiple utility and functionality points that the family had and was achieved by placing the utility behind the kids study area to provide for all the requirement.
In a way , one could say that there were a lot of intimate spots in the house while still maintaining its expanse.
