Nilam located at Alappuzha, Kerala is an architectural residential project by Incline30 design studio. This abode is a transformation of a 27 year old residence to a space which meets modern lifestyle and tradition for an intimate family of 3 generations. The client wanted a transition from their cramped unused spaces to more spacious environment by keeping the soul of the residence still in a short span of 4 months. The journey for us as a team was a merge between design, art, time and affordability.

Entering the plot, visitors are welcomed by a large front yard designed for tranquility and beauty. The serene landscape is adorned with patchy grass and Bangalore stone, leading to a small water body and a cozy seating area. This carefully crafted outdoor space charms every visitor from the moment they step through the gateway, offering a peaceful retreat and a seamless transition from exterior to interior.

The residence showcases a striking brick block elevation, accented by compound walls that feature dynamic angles and recesses, adding depth and visual interest to the structure. One of the standout features is the statement piece of terracotta split tiles, arranged vertically. This design element not only enhances the exterior aesthetics but also plays with light and shadow, creating a captivating interplay that enriches the interior ambiance throughout the day.

Inside, the residence continues to impress with its thoughtful design and comfortable living spaces. Each room is a testament to the blend of functionality and style, ensuring that every aspect of the home is both beautiful and practical.

The transformation of this residence marks a significant milestone in the family’s journey towards a new way of living. With the aid of thoughtful design, their transition became smoother, offering a more spacious and inviting home while maintaining a strong connection to their roots.
