In a world where design often leans toward spectacle, NEERVI offers a rare and necessary pause. Tucked away in Pune’s Bavdhan neighbourhood, this 2,800 sq. ft embraces subtlety over statement. It's a home that doesn’t try to impress—it invites you in. Rooted in intuition and shaped by quiet intention, NEERVI is less about curated moments and more about continuous, lived-in warmth. It’s not just a space—it’s a sensibility.

The clients, a South Indian couple in the IT sector living with their parents and daughters, envisioned a space that was both emotionally grounded and practically refined. Their brief was simple: a home that could serve the demands of daily life while offering room to pause, connect, and breathe. What emerged from a deeply collaborative process is NEERVI—a residence that balances modernity with meaning, minimalism with memory.

Originally segmented and enclosed, the apartment was reimagined with openness and flow in mind. Chamfered sage-blue glass partitions replaced solid walls, allowing natural light to travel freely across the space. These thoughtful interventions offered transparency without compromising privacy, thanks to smart glass that shifts between clear and opaque. It’s a layout designed not for show, but for the nuanced rhythms of multigenerational living.

The west-facing balcony became an anchor in the design—its expansive views and soft breezes inspiring an inward openness. Every room connects subtly to the outdoors, reinforcing a sense of place without overt gestures.

There was no singular reference image or rigid visual theme. Instead, the design stemmed from a feeling—an intention to create a home that feels soft, grounded, and present. “Form follows feelings” became the guiding principle. A study corner bathed in natural light, gentle transitions between rooms, and materials that invite touch—each element was shaped by the experience it aimed to create.

The home was named NEERVI after the clients’ young daughter—a gesture that infused the project with a sense of continuity, care, and growth. Like its namesake, the home is not static; it evolves.

The material palette is both earthy and refined: white brick walls offer a quiet structural base, sage partitions introduce softness, and a balanced mix of stone, wood, and metal keeps the space tactile and timeless. Textures are layered intuitively—natural linens, handwoven textiles, brushed surfaces—each contributing to a calm visual rhythm.

Traditional Indian craft is woven seamlessly into the modern narrative. Custom-carved black Kadappa stone panels reference South Indian temple motifs. A bold, red carved wooden panel adds a vibrant moment to the otherwise muted interior. Perhaps the most poetic expression is the crockery unit—hand-painted with delicate floral motifs—standing as a subtle yet striking piece of functional art.

Lighting in NEERVI is not decorative—it’s intuitive. Custom brass lamps and layered ambient lighting were designed to mimic natural rhythms. Corners glow gently, passageways shimmer faintly, and each room transitions in tone as the day unfolds. The lighting feels lived-in, never staged.

Most of the furniture was custom designed for the project. The language blends traditional silhouettes with stripped-down detailing—chamfers, curves, and exposed grains celebrate craft without overstatement.

More than anything, NEERVI is a space that resists spectacle. Its beauty lies in restraint, in the deliberate choice to do less—but better. It's a living narrative of a family's journey, shaped by stillness, story, and Indian craft. It stands as a serene sanctuary that evolves with its inhabitants, reflecting their values and aspirations.
