“Rishikesh” is designed with a modern G+2 floor layout that focuses on simple materials, natural ventilation, and ample daylight. The idea was to create calm, comfortable spaces that respond well to the climate while keeping the overall design clean and minimal. The built-up area of the project is 8,800 sq.ft.

The house is located in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, a region with a semi-arid climate where summers are extremely hot, monsoons are humid, and winters are mild. The site has neighboring houses on the north-west and south-west sides, which limited the openings to the south-east and north-east. Since these sides receive strong sunlight, the design uses a solid wall on the south-east to reduce heat and creates a semi-open shaded zone on the north-east to allow softer light and controlled airflow.

The house is designed as a series of stacked boxes and intersecting volumes, creating a clear and balanced composition. The ground and first floors are clad in red brick, chosen for its durability & thermal comfort. The upper floors are finished with concrete-look tiles, with deep projections and recessed planes that provide shade and add depth to the facade. Large openings are carefully placed to bring in natural ventilation while maintaining privacy from neighboring buildings.

At the entrance in ground floor, a simple seating area connects the house to local lifestyle patterns and offers a welcoming transition space. Natural light and ventilation form the essence of the design. A staircase skylight brings daylight into the center of the house, ensuring that the core remains bright throughout the day. A courtyard connects the spaces visually and climatically, allowing movement of air across both floor levels. To enhance ventilation further, a wind tower placed on the terrace channels fresh air downward, reducing dependency on mechanical cooling and creating a gentle, continuous airflow within the home.

Materials are an important part of the house’s character. The exterior uses red brick, tiles cladding, and black granite accents, giving the facade a strong and solid look. Inside, the common areas have exposed rcc slab as ceilings instead of false ceilings, keeping the spaces simple and natural. Stone flooring helps keep the rooms cool, while white oak wood in a natural finish adds warmth and a soft feel.

Overall, the house stands as a contemporary urban house where material selection, bold massing, and layered volumes come together to craft an expressive and timeless architectural identity.
