A Serene Haven: Blending Classical Elegance with Modern Luxury

For a couple whose lives revolve around their ethnic clothing brand and the constant travel that comes with it, the home had to be more than just a place to return to—it had to be a sanctuary. Their vision was clear: a space that exudes calm, a retreat from the whirlwind of their professional lives. Lush greenery, timeless elegance, and miniamaluxe (A portmanteau of minimalism and luxury) aesthetics formed the foundation of the design approach.

Bringing this vision to life was not an easy feat for Kajol Rana, Principal Designer at SR Design Aesthetic. Her father, Shukdeo Rana, Founder of the company, played a crucial role in the process, lending his expertise and unwavering support to ensure every detail aligned with their shared design philosophy. At 1,600 sq. ft., the original layout of this 4BHK apartment posed significant challenges.

The living area was cramped, the kitchen was oddly placed, and the ceiling height was extremely low, further accentuated by beams towering at 16 inches—a structural limitation that could have overwhelmed the space. Rather than concealing these elements, the design embraced them, turning obstacles into defining features. The beams were wrapped in classical-style mouldings, transforming a challenge into an architectural statement. Walls were demolished to create a more open, breathable layout, allowing the home to unfold seamlessly. The end result, a 3BHK that finds calm amidst chaos—a truly tranquil space to foster relaxation, connection, and the art of unwinding.

The heart of the home—the living and dining area—has been reimagined to offer both grandeur and intimacy. As one steps inside, banana trees stand as a verdant focal point, forming a striking backdrop that immediately sets a serene tone. A curved feature wall behind the sofa softens the visual experience, reinforcing the flow of the space. The classical ceiling detailing, juxtaposed with sleek, modern furniture, creates a dialogue between tradition and contemporary refinement.

Kalamkari Ganesh Ji artwork takes center stage in the console wall, featuring fluted glass sandwiched with grey metal wire mesh, adding depth and visual intrigue.

The open-plan dining and kitchen areas have been designed for familial warmth. Bold veining on the marble offsets the grey colour palette. Metallic flourishes imbue a sense of grandeur.

The kitchen partition is crafted from designer glass, specifically metal wire mesh sandwiched between glass, blending functionality with artistic refinement.

The master bedroom carries this duality forward. A classically detailed ceiling adds a regal charm, while the bed’s back panel masterfully combines classical motifs with modern lines. This space thrives on a rich interplay of materials that enhance its visual and tactile experience. Natural veneers and solid wood lend warmth and longevity to the design, while natural marble flooring introduces a sense of timeless opulence. Apart from the living and dining area, all the furniture has been customised by SR Design Aesthetic.

A walk-in wardrobe follows suit, where mouldings lend an old-world elegance to an otherwise contemporary space. Hybrid glass has been thoughtfully incorporated into the wardrobes, seamlessly blending durability with refined aesthetics. The alluring combination of moody black and glamorous gold lends pizzazz to the bathroom.

For the guest bedroom, a touch of nostalgia comes through the use of rattan, a nod to traditional craftsmanship. An abstract glass painting lends oodles of character to the wall.

The kid’s room, though not elaborated in detail, follows the home’s overarching theme of understated luxury and curated simplicity. Doused in bold hues of blue along with velvety textures, it is a bright and zany space. The arched headboard softens the ambience. Looking above, the ceiling with subtle arched details provides continuity to the vibrancy of the space.

The combination of playful terrazzo and soothing sage green up the ante of the decor. The energising colour scheme with curved details from the bedroom extends to the bathroom too.

What makes this home truly stand apart is its harmonious balance of contrast—modern yet classical, minimal yet significant, structured yet fluid. Every decision was rooted in restraint rather than excess, ensuring that the space remained uncluttered yet rich in detail. In the end, what began as an architectural challenge became a design triumph—a home that doesn’t just reflect its owners’ lifestyle but nurtures it, offering them the tranquillity they longed for amidst the chaos of the everyday.
