The house is located in an urban locality of Rajajinagar, Bangalore. The site is east facing and is surrounded by residential projects on its three sides. The major aim was to create not only a house but also a place to feel pleasant, calm and confortable at the end of the day’s work at hospital, the couple being doctors!

The brief given by the client was to have a 3 BHK unit for rent on 1st floor while the residence was to be planned on 2nd and 3rd floor. The residence comprises of a formal living area, kitchen, dining, puja, four bedrooms, a family lounge, a multipurpose space and terrace. The terrace and multipurpose space is on the 4th floor. Every bedroom has been designed to suit the user and their interests. The plan is configured in such a way that it gives both private and public zones to its five occupants who can be in solitude and have family time together with ease. The design development was started by keeping in mind about the five different age users. This was an opportunity to create something unique and relatable zones for each one of them at the same time to be bonded to each other. The zoning of different spaces evinces a sense of openness and the building envelope is designed to maximize natural light and ventilation. The colour palette is managed by using grey tones given Indian grey raw marble, Kandla grey stone and vibrant yellow tone of Jaisalmer stone.

The skylight lit double height area is the heart of the house which gives this contemporary home a great feeling of space allowing the full width and length of the house to be experienced. Giving each space a unique touch while maintaining visual connectivity, this minimally modern house has neutral tones with combination of bold colours like yellow and blue. The aim was to pull attention to the Jaisalmer cladding on the double height wall, which also forms the cheerful background for the puja and the internal staircase. In addition to this, the fabrication for skylight becomes the inbuilt chandelier, which brightens the whole house in the evening and further accentuates the spatial volume.

The endearing coziness of this house and the feeling of happiness and hope come through its combination of colours, textures and use of natural materials. Elegant, functional, comfortable, minimal and easy to maintain were the factors taken into consideration.
