A 30 mins drive out from the hustle of Bangalore, nestled at the base of the picturesque Nandi Hills, this weekend home has a bit of everything for a relaxed laidback life. A warm space with no needless frills, a home to relax, rejuvenate & make memories.
Set in a 3 acre property overlooking the lofty peaks of the Nandi hills, the directive was to design a 3 BHK weekend home where the clients could come stay with their larger family, entertain their guests and occasionally work from there. Principal Architect Sandeep Yadur of CUBE Architects & Interior Designs created a 4000sft home giving it a minimalistic, contemporary style without compromising on aesthetics. The layout was designed to accommodate a seamless experience through the outdoors into the house for entertaining guests and bring in the maximum amount of natural light into the core of the space. Zoning was done on the basis of views and ease of access to gathering spaces. This became the driving factor around which everything was aligned in the design- the master suites, guest rooms, kitchen, the home-office, etc. To do justice to the location, floor-to-ceiling openings across the residence present gorgeous vistas of the verdant outdoors.
The earthiness of the finishes brings in the warmth of the project. The exposed brick façade, cement flooring, raw concrete ceilings juxtaposed with wooden elements across the house maintains the simplicity of the design while accessorizing the interiors with the use of fresh colours makes it a contemporary weekend home.
The seamless cement flooring across the main living space has a break with the teal designer tiles defining the sitting space. A small green court with lush tropical fronds divides the living and the kitchen area. The simplistic and monochromatic kitchen is the central piece of this design arrangement around which the daily lives revolve. Basking in the sunlight from the adjoining skylight, the dark tone of the kitchen zone with the simple dining arrangement compliments the entire space. The main dining space has been taken out to an open landscape court with an arrangement to seat a group of 10 to take in the sights and sounds of the hills to the maximum. A single flight of steps set next to a double height glass façade connect the ground and first floor levels. The Master Bedroom on the first floor has an adjoining office space. The cosy, quiet set-up for calm evenings with an old-world feel fills up the space here. The window at the end of the room connects to the living space below. The large terrace outside the room doubles up as a gathering area again.
