Located in Bhukum on the outskirts of Pune, Suki House is a 1,850 sq. ft. residence conceived as a grounded, multigenerational home that celebrates landscape, climate and everyday living. Designed as a first home for a family deeply connected to the city, the house is imagined as a quiet sanctuary where domestic life unfolds in close relationship with the garden.

The brief shared with the Humanscape Studio was shaped by the family’s desire to create a comfortable and inclusive home. The ground floor was envisioned as a space for the parents that opens directly into a lush garden, while also welcoming visiting grandparents from their native village; allowing them to experience the familiarity of verandah living. The home also offers a nurturing environment for their young niece, creating spaces that support both togetherness and quiet moments of learning and growth.

The architecture is organised around shaded edges and transitional spaces that mediate between indoors and outdoors. A generous verandah runs along the garden edge, acting as a seasonal threshold, where daily life spills outward. While the garden receives gentle morning light, the building provides shade during the harsher afternoon hours, allowing the outdoor spaces to remain comfortable throughout the day.

Materiality plays a central role in shaping the home’s character. The palette combines locally sourced basalt stone, textured stone flooring, framed structural elements and reclaimed wood detailing, creating a tactile language that feels both contemporary and rooted in its regional context. Large pivot openings and operable windows allow breezes to move through the house, enhancing cross-ventilation and passive thermal comfort.
