Situated on the outskirts of Coimbatore City, Terra Mask House sits on a 6.8 cent (2960 sq.ft) trapezoidal plot within a serene residential community. With its 3500 sq. ft. footprint, it stands as a tranquil abode amidst its natural surroundings.

The inception of this dwelling arose from a dual purpose: to honor the breathtaking landscape of its site surrounding & context while fulfilling the client's vision for a modest yet elegant three-bedroom abode. Balancing openness with privacy became paramount, leading to the innovation of a Parametric Facade that not only captivates aesthetically but also functions dynamically.

Designed as a composite structure, the facade seamlessly combines Terracotta Jalis, Exposed Wire cut Bricks, and Porotherm Blocks, arranged at angles of 45, 90, and 135 degrees. This parametric fusion enhances not only the aesthetic appeal but also ensures improved privacy, thermal regulation, and optimal airflow throughout the structure.

The elevation view reveals a striking amalgamation of three distinct volumes extending from east to west. The initial volume, constructed with a steel framework, serves as the shelter for the parking area and entrance path. Its juxtaposition with the adjacent volumes adds a unique character to the overall structure. Each volume is designated for specific functions, boasting its own collection of spaces tailored to its purpose.

Guided by the geometry of the site and principles of Vastushastra, spatial planning took precedence. The fluid connectivity among primary spaces-living, dining, and kitchen-effortlessly blurs boundaries. Behind the facade, the Skylit courtyard emerges, serving as a captivating segue to the pooja room. Nestled in the southwest corner lies the Master Bedroom.

An aura of anticipation greets every visitor as they traverse the entrance poised above a serene Koi pond. The floor, adorned with transparent Laminated Glass, creates an illusion of walking upon water. Within the living room, a grandeur unfolds through a double-height volume, adorned with expansive sliding glass doors and elongated slit windows, facilitating abundant natural light. Polished Kota stone flooring accentuates the play of shadows, enhancing the spatial ambiance.

To mitigate heat accumulation on the southern wall, we devised a solution to clad it with Porous Terracotta bricks, serving as an effective thermal barrier. Inspired by the client's passion for classical dance, particularly Nataraja, we transformed this functional feature into a captivating art installation. Using poles carved from Silver Oak trees, we intricately plugged them into the holes of the bricks, crafting an abstract depiction of the dancing Nataraja figure. This unique fusion of functionality and artistry adds a personalized touch to the space, enriching the aesthetic experience of the Living space.

Ascending to the First Floor unveils a familial haven - a family lounge, extending towards a bedroom atop the ground floor Master Bedroom. The guest bedroom, nestled in the northwest corner, boasts a balcony offering panoramic vistas, while a slit window frames the skylit court. A deliberate spatial hierarchy is maintained, progressing seamlessly from the enclosed Family Lounge to semi-open areas, ultimately culminating in a low-level open terrace that embraces the picturesque surroundings.

Thoughtfully curated, the material palette serves as a testament to functionality and aesthetic coherence. Polished Kota stone, Black Pearl Granite Stone, Red Mandana Stone, Rough Kota stone, Vitrified & Ceramic Tiles, Slate Stone, and Terracotta tiles—all meticulously selected to enrich the sensory experience of the users.

Terra Mask House is a beautiful fusion of nature and design, showcasing architectural elegance and natural harmony.
