Sitting atop a 20 year old family home, the Loft designed for a contemporary minimalist artist is a 100sqm  feet double heighted volume stylishly arranged to double up as a living ,working and leisure space. The Artist’s eye for less and powerful detail invited a Bauhaus approach towards the design, keeping the décor scarce , retaining the material finishes to their original state and keeping the color tones true to its original colors.

The space consists of a double heighted lobby with a sky lit courtyard, A bed area, a walk-in closet with an attached bathroom, a mezzanine floor with a studio space. Taking a flight of stairs to the topmost part of the old house, one is greeted with a brightly lit double heighted space, with streaks of shadows cast by the pergola of the skylight on a 20 foot wall against which a large artwork by the artist leans looking up the sun. The floor of the courtyard is artistically laid to take shape of a minimalist monochrome Bauhaus artwork, carpeting the floor like a canvas.

A balcony peeps into the courtyard, giving the user a view of the carefully laid tiling pattern washed by the skylight above. Greens take up the corners composing the space and adding the only color to the space apart from the artist’s artwork. A barn styled door slides open into an overwhelming double height space that holds a mezzanine floor. The subtle warmth of polished Birch plywood furniture against the raw Concrete finished floors and walls and tropical plants taking their strategic position, create an unconventional yet warm composition. The bed area with its industrial styled bed side lamps and a cozy window seating with its simple yet sophisticated details in wood work and muted upholstery tones frames like a minimalist’s pondering space. A latticed door opens into a sleek and stylish walk-in closet space, with finishes in lacquered white glass, and accented see – through closets lit up to reveal the curated accessories. The Bathroom is clad n subway tiles with an accented pastel blue shower area. Black fabrication details add an industrial character.

A sleek metal and wood staircase folds its way up to the mezzanine where one side is a study area and the other side is the artist’s painting space. The easel area has a small balcony peeping into the lobby courtyard and looking up the skylight above. The drama of light and shadow plays like a time-lapse on the white walls and become a source of creative inspiration. A Meticulously designed canvas stand doubles up as a bespoke furniture element. Fabricated details, exposed conduits used for surface mount lighting, A bucket shaped set of pendant lamps give the space an industrial character yet maintaining a warmth. The Design character resonates the modernist culture of the Bauhaus Art and crafts movement.
