In the ever-growing city of Pune, finding a quiet abode has become a natural desire. The professionally busy clients, required a place of retreat that blends seamlessly with their daily lives.

Situated in a gated community, the site offers serene, tree-lined roads free from traffic or disturbances. Within the constraints of the limited space, the studio began to weave together the functions required. An existing African tulip tree became the guiding force shaping both the function and form of the design. The architecture responds to the tree’s envelop, sculpting a form punctuated by subtle indents and bold projections in honour of the foliage. Anticipating the presence of neighbouring building in future, the plan was deliberated to bestow a sense of being confined on the outside but expansive on the inside.

Staircase with a distinct sectional shift of The Enfold by Studio Biosis

The staircase has a unique sectional shift. One mid landing stretches outward beneath a skylight’s embrace, while the other remains sheltered within. This shift creates striking contrasts as one ascends to the first floor and then to the terrace.

The first-floor corridor is illuminated by a skylight and overlooks the living below, connecting the two bedrooms and a study. The west bedroom is shielded from the afternoon sun, while the east bedroom has a large seating window. A pair of standing balconies visually link these bedrooms, creating a space for conversation. A northeast corner window in the study, fills the room with a warm sunlight. A cut-out channels this light onto the Buddha in the mandir, a level below.

The building’s clay red exterior replicates the bright blooms of the African tulip tree. Further, the common areas are paved in Kota, transitioning to white Banswara in the bedrooms, with yellow Jaisalmer accents running throughout. The flooring design follows the building's form, creating a seamless flow. The ceiling remains in its raw concrete state, while minimalist carpentry in white, wood and pastel tones adds warmth, creating a cozy and inviting space.
