The Gentle Home — A Soft Minimal Haven in Aundh, Pune

Perched on the top floor of an apartment building surrounded by mature trees in Aundh, Pune, The Gentle Home feels like a quiet sigh — a retreat designed for calm living. With an expansive 200 sq ft balcony and generous green views, the 2BHK apartment already came with the gift of serenity. The brief from the homeowners was simple but clear: airy, minimal, cozy, with plenty of space to move, breathe, and belong.

Designed by Studio GH, the home has been thoughtfully reshaped — not just decorated. Structural changes, such as extending the master bedroom to incorporate a wardrobe space and carving out a small yet charming foyer at the entrance, helped set the tone for what would become a sanctuary of light and warmth.

The living, dining, and kitchen flow into one another, unified under a tactile grey floor tile with a subtle stone-like texture — grounding the open-plan space with a sense of rawness and earthiness. At its heart sits a plush forest green sofa, one that converts into a daybed, inviting long afternoons and lazy weekends. It's a bold hue, but one that roots the home — connecting visually to the indoor plants that dot the space with ease.

Furniture choices speak to an honest materiality: sheesham, pine, and teak, sourced for their grain, tone, and character. The dining table, TV console, and center table all echo this natural ethos, lending the space a quiet sophistication.

The compact kitchen features a soft matte sage finish, offset with a teak-toned laminate that picks up the natural warmth found across the home. The backsplash tile was chosen for its soft, aged look — evoking something familiar and lasting without calling too much attention to itself. Storage is treated with intentional restraint. Upper cabinets are replaced with open shelving, reinforcing the belief that minimalism is less about hiding clutter and more about embracing simplicity. “Minimalism with excess storage is an oxymoron,” the designers say — and this home lives by that.

In both bedrooms, the earthy tone continues. Teak and rattan beds, storage-free frames, and wooden flooring create a grounded, tactile environment. The master features a walk-in-style wardrobe enclosed in a cane curtain — soft, airy, and refreshingly low on visual weight. Wardrobes are finished in jute-textured laminates, and mirrors are pared-back and strictly functional.

Bathrooms carry their own textural narrative — with rustic wall tiles that echo coarse brushstrokes, aged kit-kat patterns in the master, and hand-finished floor tiles in greenish-grey tones. They feel grounded, elemental, and timeless.

The terrace, too, is designed with purpose and peace in mind. A gently winding stone pathway leads to a quaint gazebo tucked into the far end — a nod to the client's new work-from-home rhythm. Surrounded by planters and shaded just enough to balance light with comfort, it’s an idyllic spot for quiet hours of focused work or unwinding with a book. Like the rest of the home, it celebrates ease without excess.

Details across the home — jute rugs, cane lamps, soft linen curtains, and blinds that celebrate the natural fall of the fabric — tie everything together into a single visual melody. There’s a consistent lightness, not just in tone, but in touch.

The Gentle Home is not performative minimalism. It’s a lived, breathable version of it — where storage hides in plain sight, beauty emerges from material honesty, and everything exists for a reason. A true soft minimal haven, held gently above the city.
