In the heart of Ahmedabad, a bustling urban area, a skin clinic stands as a harmonious blend of functionality and hospitality. Originally intended as an interior renovation, the project evolved into a brand-new structure that seamlessly fused the old and the new. With a vision to create a warm and inviting environment, the challenge was to strike the right balance, ensuring the clinic provided necessary medical facilities while exuding a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. This article takes you on a journey through the design process, highlighting the transformation of the clinic into a serene and captivating space.
From the very beginning, the clients expressed their desire to avoid the sterile environment often associated with clinics. They envisioned a space that celebrated both functionality and comfort, allowing patients to feel at ease and celebrate their recovery. To achieve this delicate balance, the project team focused on incorporating elements that would create a tranquil ambiance while breaking away from the traditional clinical atmosphere.
Situated at a busy crossroad, the clinic demanded a design that would make a statement amidst the chaos. The façade underwent a complete transformation, erasing any trace of the old building and embracing a new identity. Exposed brick became the main material, lending the clinic a timeless charm. The warm, earthy tones and natural texture of the bricks not only created a welcoming atmosphere but also offered a sense of privacy by filtering light through the façade screens.
Inside the clinic, the design team carefully selected materials and colours to enhance the soothing environment. Wood and brass took centre stage, adding elegance and warmth to the interiors. Soft pastel colours were introduced, infusing the space with liveliness. Additionally, plants were strategically placed along the facades and near windows, bringing a touch of nature and vitality to the clinic. The integration of pastel tones in various areas, such as the reception, treatment rooms, and surgical spaces, further heightened the sense of tranquillity.
The design process focused on creating a well-organized and clutter-free space. The Outpatient Department served as the starting point, with meticulous attention given to arranging elements such as beds, light sources, storage, and curtains. A brass rod served multiple purposes, holding cushions, wrapping around mirrors, and housing a circular profile light. Wooden finishes and brass accents were seamlessly incorporated throughout the clinic, creating a cohesive design language.
To add a splash of color and personality, the reception and main corridor were treated with a mint blue hue, accentuating the wood and brass elements. The design team commissioned several wall arts that brought creativity and charm to the clinic, engaging visitors and creating a unique atmosphere. Additionally, the first floor was added to provide more space, addressing concerns about potential damage to walls from trolleys and machines. Bands of mosaic tiles were introduced at the working platform level, offering durability and visual focal points.
In each space, the careful balance of functionality and aesthetics was prioritized. Durable concrete-like finishes were chosen for areas susceptible to wear and tear, while wooden strips maintained a cohesive look. Different colored mosaics were used, evoking distinct feelings and creating a unique ambiance in each space. The design team's attention to practical solutions and durable finishes ensured the clinic not only looked visually appealing but also operated efficiently.
