Urban plots offer very little by way of contextual richness. Concepts usually emerge from a combination of derived narratives. There are two at play in this project ; a primary spatial narrative, constructed from the family’s aspirations, lifestyle, and varying levels of private and public ( guest ) interaction. It includes some dramatic moments at the inter-sections between static(private) and social areas of the house, like the double height at the centre of the house, that sectionally connects the family lounge, library, and lobbies on two levels. The materiality forms a secondary narrative; Textures and lighting used in specific formats, to both accentuate and distract..

Villa Aish is located on a 200sqm plot in Bengaluru, for a family of five. The building sits elevated from the ground, on a floor that houses parking and utilities. A tall boundary wall masks this part of the structure, merging with the Villa’s facade, but stepping back just enough to create a tight, private entry experience. A stairway along the boundary leads up to the main entrance of the home. The exterior treatment of this wall is consistent with the rest of the building, alternating between porcelain cladding and white textures with glass, and steel as accents.

It’s on the first floor that the family spends most of their day, shifting between the formal living room, family lounge and dining area, with the option to expand and contract usable space by tucking sliding glass doors away into pockets. Three bedrooms occupy the second floor, connected by a passage that overlooks the lounge below. The two floors forge relationships through the section and a shared palette of Wood, Aluminium, Brass, Glass, and PU finishes. The double-height volume also extends to the front edge of the building, framing terraces on two different levels. The third floor is designed to feel like a studio, a lot more private and materially different.

A warmer mix of materials in the rest of the house, transitions to darker tones here in eclectic combinations. A guest lounge on this level includes a bar, with access to a gym, media room and bedroom. The floor also extends outwards to form a covered upper terrace, with a large hovering roof above it.
