This design for a thirteenth-story apartment in western Ahmedabad for a family of three explores concepts which creatively reimagine the making of an urban home. the apartment is reorganized by removing partitions that divide the dining space and a bedroom, creating an extended, interconnected living core. The spaces thus created feature minimal furniture and soft, neutral hues, creating an open, airy feel. The light color palette acts as a seamless backdrop, allowing everyday objects to naturally integrate into the space. This approach fosters a sense of continuity, where functionality and simplicity coexist, enhancing the overall sense of warmth. In this, design emphasizes the interconnectedness of daily life, celebrating its nuances within the home.
A series of vaults are introduced to transform the apartment’s atmosphere, elevating both its spatial experience and aesthetic appeal. By introducing curved elements into the ceiling, the design breaks away from the conventional flat expanse, adding a sense of height and volume to the room. This architectural feature not only enhances the perception of space but also introduces an organic flow, softening the stark lines typically found in apartment interiors.
In addition to their visual and emotional impact, the subtle curvature of the ceiling acts as a reflector, allowing natural light to filter into the room and interact with the surfaces in dynamic ways. As sunlight pours in through windows, it bounces off the vaulted ceiling, creating a play of soft shadows and reflections that fill the space with a warm, inviting glow. This delicate diffusion of light softens the overall ambience, making the room feel airy, serene, and more expansive. Natural light becomes a sculptural element, gently illuminating the living space and adding depth to the overall interior.
